The idea of the L&R News hub is to provide an easy to use, web-based, shared set of information to support effective efficient operation of an IFNC.
The hub will either be hosted externally to the IFNC with access being provided via the intranet, or be hosted by one of the members of the consortium. In both scenarios, the Hub would allow information sharing across consortia offices, field personnel (via mobile devices) and other organisations that may be involved in the News production process.
Planning, gathering and producing News generates a vast volume of information on a daily basis. Key to the success of the L&RHub will be its ability to filter information in ways that ensures relevance. The idea is that while the hub will contain a vast amount of information, it will be managed in a way that ensures that people only see what is relevant to them.
In addition to maintaining relevance, the hub will also be designed to be extremely easy to access and use. It will also be designed to provide pay-offs for those being asked to use it. It will achieve success through being seen as useful (for a range of different reasons) by all those being asked to use it.
From a technology perspective, it is anticipated that the L&R Hub will exploit an established web-based collaborative working platform, which will be configured and developed so as to deliver against IFNC information sharing requirements.
From a process perspective, it is currently anticipated that at minimum the Hub will support advanced and “on the day” planning, resource management (Reporters, Crews, Trucks ) and assignment, story planning and coordination, communication of breaking news and “on day” story updates, management of the pipeline of story “ideas”.
